The Website Strategy Assessment

Examples of websites Brooks Digital has designed

Get a fast, low-risk Website Strategy Assessment to align your team and build an evidence-based plan for your website.

Your website should move your mission forward, not hold it back.

If your website feels out of step with your organization, you’re not alone.

Many health nonprofits find themselves in the same spot:

  • Your site no longer reflects your programs or priorities.

  • Internal teams disagree on what needs to change.

  • Leadership wants results, but it’s unclear what approach or changes will address your problems without unnecessary spending.

You know you need to modernize your website, but without a clear, evidence-based plan, it’s hard to know where to start or how to structure your investment.

That’s where the Website Strategy Assessment comes in.

The Assessment is a focused, 3-week evaluation designed to surface the key problems holding your site back from accomplishing its objectives and align your team on a path forward.

You’ll walk away with the evidence, alignment, and roadmap you need to make smart, strategic decisions about how to invest in a refresh or redesign.

Great nonprofits have great websites. Does your site meet these criteria?

Resources & Research page

Rooted in your mission

Your website clearly communicates your purpose, programs, and impact. It helps visitors quickly understand who you are, what you do, and why your work matters.

Aligned across your organization

Everyone, from communications and development to leadership, is on the same page about what your website is trying to achieve. It supports shared goals instead of competing priorities.

Built around your audiences

Your site reflects the needs of the people you serve and the supporters who make your work possible. It’s easy for donors, partners, and community members to find what they need and take action.

Guided by evidence, not opinions

Decisions about your website are based on real feedback and data, not guesswork. You know which updates will make the biggest difference and can plan with confidence.

How the Website Strategy Assessment works

Step 1: Stakeholder Input

A short questionnaire gathers perspectives across your organization to uncover people’s pain points, goals, and where your organization may not be aligned.

Step 2: Strategy Workshop

A 90-minute virtual session clarifies your audiences, goals, and priorities so your team leaves with a shared understanding of your website’s “North Star.”

Step 3: User Testing & Report

We observe real users using your site and turn those insights into a clear, leadership-ready report that reveals what’s limiting your site’s performance and gives you evidence-backed options for what to do next at different budget levels.

The entire process takes 3 weeks and about 3-4 hours of your team’s time.

The smart way to invest in your website

Most nonprofits jump straight into a redesign because something “isn’t working,” but without clear evidence about what’s causing the problems. This often leads to projects that cost more than expected, take longer than planned, and still don’t fix the underlying issues.

The Assessment prevents those risks by giving you the clarity to:

  • Understand what’s actually holding your site back

  • Identify which improvements will make the biggest difference

  • Define the right scope before spending money on a redesign

  • Align leadership and staff around the true priorities

  • Make confident decisions backed by real user evidence

  • Build a case your board and leadership can support

This is why Brooks Digital starts every engagement with an Assessment. It ensures nonprofits invest wisely, avoid expensive mistakes, and make improvements that last.

What you’ll walk away with

  • A shared definition of your website’s goals and priorities
  • Evidence from real users to guide your decisions
  • A clear, actionable plan to improve your website
  • Multiple fixed-cost implementation options to fit your budget

Half of your Assessment fee is credited toward future website work if you move forward within 90 days.

FAQs

Is this a website redesign?

No. The Assessment is an evaluation service that identifies what needs to change and provides a clear roadmap for an improved website. You can then choose from several fixed-cost implementation options, or take the plan elsewhere.

Who should participate?

Typically your communications lead, a program or fundraising representative, and an executive stakeholder.

Who is this best suited for?

The Website Strategy Assessment is designed for small to mid-sized nonprofits with established teams (typically 5-25 staff) who rely on their website to support programs, communications, or fundraising.

If you’re part of a smaller, volunteer-led, or grassroots organization, you may still find the process useful, but it’s usually most valuable once your team has the capacity to act on the recommendations.

Do we need a big budget to benefit?

The Assessment helps you spend your budget wisely, whatever its size, by ensuring every dollar goes toward work that supports your goals.

Our pricing is designed to be affordable for small to mid-sized nonprofits with ongoing programs and staff support. If you’re a newer or grassroots organization, we’re happy to point you toward lower-cost options that might be a better starting point.
